Tramper TWS

Picture
PROS: great looking, extremely capable, endless adaptions possible
CONS: less stable than the four-wheeled Tramper, pricey

If you can afford a Tramper TWS, about £8,000, if you want a street legal and off-road capable machine to beat all others, and you have the strength to handle three wheels, then read no further, just phone Beamer on 01794 884766 to have one custom built for you. If all else applies but you need the added stability of four wheels, phone them for a Tramper. If you still need convincing read on.

I'm onto my second Tramper TWS, not because I wore out the first, you can't, but because during a long period of worse health I made the mistake of selling my first and when I was fit enough to ride again I thought that I'd save money buying something cheaper. I bought a Mini Crosser and the motor burnt out and a TGA Breeze S4 and it couldn't make it up a hill my TWS have never even paused on.

I have covered thousands of miles on my Tramper TWS, and I have only broken down once, that was on my first one after two years when a lithium battery failed and was replaced under warranty. One of the upgrades I have had done on each was to put ergonomic seats from Mini Crosser on them, but that's because my back really is shot and Mini Crosser make the best seats, just as well as Mini Crosser break down so often and, as I did, you'll have to wait for a tow truck, four times over two machines. Check out the usual seats Beamer put on the Tramper TWS and Tramper, they may suit you. I carry folding traction boards because I'm almost always on my own and there's limits to any machine, but I've never used them, though I was with someone who did get stuck on her TWS. I think she got one wheel down a hole under the mud - see photo.

Beamer, who make Tramper and Tramper TWS, are favoured by the likes of the National Trust and Countryside Mobility, because of the durability and design of their off-road mobility scooters, they are their biggest customers. For extra stability these charities  go for the four wheeler, the Tramper. The charity Disabled Ramblers also rate the Tramper highly, often offering one or two for hire on their organised rambles, and many of their members have their own Tramper TWS mobility scooters. The TWS is less stable, having three wheels, but more manoeuvrable, and with better suspension, than the four wheeler. Tramper, unless bought secondhand, are all sold as built to order. Beamer are incredibly accommodating in their willingness to adapt the suspension and optimisation of their mobility scooters to suit their customer and I am delighted with mine.

Neither sales nor servicing is offered through local mobility shops. To accommodate this one can be brought to your home to try, and servicing, but not always repairs, is done at home through regional engineers, if a repair can't be done by the engineer at your home they will take it back to the engineering works near Salisbury, Wiltshire. By appointment you are welcome to try them, or get servicing done, at the works.
